CHROFI’s competition winning design for an 8 storey commercial building in Macquarie Park is a welcoming focal point for a new precinct developed by Stockland. The precinct, centred on a new park, is designed as a destination and meeting place for the local community.
The building challenges the conventional office building form by ‘breaking outside the box’ through its unique silhouette of inclined facade planes that unfold to open up at the corners and reveal its interior heart. The result is a distinctive form that offers a diversity in architecture within the Macquarie Park area. The chamfered open corners allow the building to feel less solid, offer oblique views, further soften the form and invite people in from the street to the precinct.
To create an active, generous and permeable ground plane, the upper levels are lifted up on splayed columns creating a protected undercover public space of civic proportions where people can visit the retail offerings, pause and enjoy the park or take shelter while moving through the neighbourhood.
Offering over 10,000msq of commercial area, the project is conceived as an exemplar contemporary workplace that sits lightly on a park with a rich mix of uses for the whole precinct and community.
